Forex Backtesting Forum Testers Wanted – Limited Time Offer

I have been working on a project behind the scenes and I’m finally ready to give you a sneak peak. The project is a forum that will hopefully help traders of all levels share their backtesting results in a friendly community, get feedback and see what other people are testing.

The Concept

My hope is that the forum will accomplish four things:

  • Give people a place to record their backtesting results for later analysis
  • Provide concrete evidence that a trading system has a good chance of working in live trading
  • Uncover the bullshit behind trading systems that make false claims
  • Allow you to “follow along at home” and learn how to trade a profitable system

I would like to test both discretionary and automated systems and also provide a repository for free Metatrader indicators, trading systems and educational material.

How does that sound?

Forums Can Suck

The only problem is that forums can be a bitch to setup and maintain.  There need to be moderators and posts need to be constantly checked for spam.  Not to mention the additional disk space that will be taken up by all the images.

These things alone made me think twice about starting one.  In fact, I still have my reservations.  However, after thinking about different ways to accomplish what I want to accomplish a forum is by far the best way to do it.

There Will Be Admission

There is only one way to solve some of these issues.  I am ultimately going to charge a small fee for access.  This will help compensate me for my time (this blog is a business) and pay for additional disk space and moderators, if necessary.

I want to make it as easily accessible to as many people as possible so there will be a small monthly charge of $4.95/month for regular subscribers and $19.95/month for commercial subscribers.  The only difference is that commercial subscribers will be able to post a link in their signature line to their website, product or affiliate link.

How You Can Get In For Free For Life

However, while I’m still testing and tweaking I’m looking for a few good people to give it a try.  You have to be willing to do the following:

  • Post at least 25 backtesting trades, complete with charts, notes and results
  • Give honest feedback on what you think about the forum and how to improve it

That’s it!  In exchange, I will give you a free lifetime Commercial Membership just for helping me out.

So if you are serious about becoming a better trader and you already have some sort of forex backtesting software (or are willing to buy one), then please leave a comment below expressing your interest.

Only 3 Spots Available

I’m opening up the forum to only three people, so if you really are interested, don’t delay.

I already have about 100 documented backtesting trades in the forum for you to take a look at.  Thanks and I hope this project will make us all better traders!

BTW, just getting to know simplefxtester. I generally like it. Of course, the big advantage is that my MT4 templates work since it IS MT4. One negative, it would be really cool if stops and and profit target horizontal lines could be moved with the mouse. I am sure that this is doable because I have an EA that will do this. There doesn't appear to be a written manual but the training videos are very good. The EA doesn't seem to be configurable. I would like the capability to set default stop loss and lot size. Also would like to be able to adjust color and location for the headsup display.some of this may be resolved with familiarity.Archie

Thank you very much for your input on Simple Forex Tester. Yeah, based on what other people have been saying too, the biggest downfall of SFT is that you cannot manually move the stop loss, except to breakeven. As for the EA, I'm pretty sure that the stops and targets depend on how the EA was programed. It's probably not a function of the testing software. Thanks again, Hugh

? the EA is the testing software.Have used SFT some more, it is pretty fragile/buggy.I have the same complaint of FT2 but the good thing about FT2 is that the developer answers emails and is improving the product. The biggest drawback to FT2 is the difficulty of porting indicators to it.Archie

I see, didn't understand how SFT worked. Thanks for the update.

Hello,I am very much interested in this concept. I have Forextester2 and I just bought SimpleFXTester after I saw your description of it. There are things I don't like about fxtester2.But, on the subject of backtesting. I have trouble sticking to a backtesting plan. I keep wanting to tweek the rules during backtesting and this is a big problem. I think that if I was part of a project it would be helpful because I would not feel like I had a right to change the rule and also, I would feel an obligation to the project to do the work.Archie

Hi Archie,Thanks for your input on the backtesting plan. I know what you mean and that is what I had in mind when I created the backtesting forum. However, there are a couple of technical issues that I'm trying to work out at the moment, but I'll let you know when it is available. I have some trouble sticking to the plan too sometimes. Thanks for stopping by!Hugh

ok, rUDY lEDER IS WORKING ON THE SAME THING, WE'LL SEE WHO IS READY FIRST. ;-) sorry, caplock slip,

Sounds like he has it working already. There's enough room in this world for more than one person.

Oh, BTW, what do you not like about Forex Tester 2? I'm just curious. Thanks, Hugh

What special features will the forum have? $4.95 every month really does not sound right when it is just a simple forum. How would you convince me to invest my money (and effort and time) here? Can it be really worth more than the free myfxbook.Cheers, light

Hi Light,That is a fair question and one that I will probably get a lot. I'm looking at my account at MyFXBook right now. I'm assuming that you are referring to the section of the site where you can see the performance of people's strategies.MFB is a great recordkeeping and performance reporting tool. I love it and I wish I could get it to work with Oanda...anyway, but you don't know what the person's trading system is unless they choose to disclose it.In my forum, the parameters for testing will be outlined in each testing session. Then every single trade will be logged with charts, pip/$/% results and reasons for taking the entry/exit. Other traders can then post their own backtesting of the same method, a variation of the method or suggest improvements. This can be a tremendous shortcut to developing a profitable strategy because you can actually follow along with your backtesting software to see if the person's method is legit or they are taking ideal entries/exits or curve fitting. If it is legit, you will basically have a blueprint of how to be a profitable trader. That in itself is worth the price of admission. My forum will also have training videos and hopefully have contributions from members of custom programmed EAs and indicators. I am going to contribute a couple that I had custom programmed for me. That in itself can be worth hundreds of dollars. To be completely honest, I don't know for sure if a paid forum is the way to go, but I really do want to provide a valuable resource for forex traders. The minimal charge will help to ensure that only serious traders join, deters the spammers and will provide the capital for maintenance and expansion. Maybe I will find that it needs to be free but for now I'm going to try to start it as a paid forum. What do you think?Hugh

I think this is not for me, I'm sorry, I'm a cheap trader. Anyway, good luck with this project. I may check it out when you launch, and who knows, I might change my mind and sign up.
