I just saw a really good movie last week called Into the Wild. It is the true story of a man who was tormented by his parents all of his life and after graduating from Emory University, he gives away his entire savings of $24,000 and
literally burns the last of his cash after buying a few essential supplies.
He then sets off to wander, in search of ultimate happiness. He changes his name to Alexander Supertramp and finds pleasure in surviving by his wits and reading great books. His adventures take him from town to town and even across the border down into Mexico.
Along the way he meets some great people but always leaves before he can get too close to them, probably a defense mechanism that he learned from the relationship with his parents. Ultimately he ends up living in the Magic Bus, a deserted school bus in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. It is here that he finds out what true happiness really is and it’s not living in the bus!
I liked this movie because it made me think about many different things like:
- What would it be like to just get up and go, survive by whatever comes?
- Where would I go if I was free to roam?
- Are there other ways to gain this kind of freedom (like trading)?
- Is what he did selfish? Is that wrong?
- Is it better to be free with a lot of money or free with no money?
What I also liked was that the movie didn’t judge him for his actions. It just told a story. In addition, the movie was artistically done but not overly so. It featured Emile Hirsch, Vince Vaughn, Catherine Keener, Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt in a screenplay written and directed by Sean Penn.
Anyway, I highly recommend this movie if you are looking for something to while you wait for that next trade to set up! Check it the full description by clicking the image below:
