Here is a link to a great post on FXStreet about Valeria Bednarik and her journey to becoming a full-time professional Forex trader. She initially got interested in trading by ‘investing’ in a ponzi scheme. After the scam was revealed, she was determined to make trading work on her own.
She started her working career as an accountant, but enrolled in Trader College to learn how to trade Forex. A surprising statistic that she learned from her mentor was that only 4 in 100 students actually finished all the classes.
I don’t know for sure, but I could imagine that the numbers are similar for people who purchase online or at-home education. Most people are just looking for the quick buck and are not in it because they love it.
One comment that she made that I thought was funny was: “No one in my family fully understands what I do! ” That seems to be a common theme when I try to talk to people about Forex trading.
Tim Ferriss of 4-Hour Workweek fame is not a Trader, but he mentioned that he has the same problem. After awhile, he got so tired of trying to explain to people what he does, that he just started saying that he is a drug dealer. That is the story that came to mind when I read Valeria’s interview.
Anyway, the interview is very informative and goes into other important topics like how she trades and her big “ah-ha” moment. I would recommend that you check it out.
