Here is the third commercial in their “basement trader” series.

Having your girlfriend do this while you are trading is probably the best way to lose all of your money trading.  If you haven’t seen the other videos, you can see them here and here.

Have you seen any funny trading videos lately?

The main character has some sort of health problem and is told that he has one week to live.  Then he goes out and does everything that he never did in life like skydiving, scuba diving, riding his motorcycle without a helmet, etc.  He asks himself why he never did those things before but is glad he finally got to do them.

When the one week is up, he passes away, finally fulfilled.  Isn’t that how most of those stories go?

The only thing that made me give it a chance was the 3.8/5 star Netflix rating. Usually if a movie is that highly rated, it is worth watching.  So I clicked on the Play Instantly button and gave it a shot.

What it is really about

The movie IS about a guy who is dying.  The main character is named Ben Tyler (played by Joshua Jackson) and he is told by his doctor that he has a severe case of cancer and my have only a few weeks to a few months to live.

While walking home from the doctor’s office, Ben purchases a Norton Motorcycle that he has been eying for awhile.  His fiancee hates motorcycles but he figures that since he is dying…

He talks it over the diagnosis with this fiancee and decides to go through with the wedding regardless of what happens with the cancer.  Then he sets off on a week long motorcycle trip to the west coast of Canada to clear his head and figure things out.   Along the way he experiences events that change his life.

What I liked most about it

From the opening scene, this movie is very witty.  It doesn’t follow a strict, linear story line.  There are funny back stories and pictures from his trip spliced in at exactly the right moments throughout the movie.

What I also liked was that this movie was a more realistic look at how someone may face their own impending mortality.

He took a step back and instead of going balls-to-the-wall, examined every aspect of his life and found the essence of himself. It is a great reminder of how we should be constantly reviewing what works and what doesn’t in our lives and make the necessary changes.

One Week is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

The clip shows what appears to be an old woman walking past the camera talking on a mobile phone. That is not such a big deal today, but in 1928, what could she be doing? Check it out:

Being a skeptic when it comes to these types of things, I scanned the comments for possible answers to what this could be. The best answer that I could find that it could be some sort of early hearing aid.

This would make sense. Old, crazy lady talking to herself in her new hearing aid? That would be my guess.

This amazing feat was achieved in 1974, shortly after the World Trade Center opened. He was up there for an incredible 45 minutes and danced on and even lay in the middle of the cable.

The story is well told, but what I really enjoyed about the movie was Philippe’s sheer passion for what he does. His believes that true living comes from pushing your comfort level and not following the rules.

Throughout the movie, various people are interviewed about their role in this operation.  It also shows his previous conquests leading up to this feat.

Watching him hanging there in the middle of the towers blew my mind in terms of what is possible.  The best part was that he was having fun!  Most people would be scared to death to even be on the roof of one of the towers, much less walk in between them on a tiny cable.

I love these kinds of movies because they open my mind to what we can achieve.  If you are interested, click here or check it out on Netflix.

All the earbuds that I have had in the past have been convenient because of their size but the sound was always pretty bad.  However I used them because I listen to music to help me concentrate while trading and I use it as a part of my pre-trading routine.

One day, I saw some $80 earbuds in the store and I thought that they were probably overpriced and just ridiculous.  Really, how good could they be?

Then I got a gift certificate for Amazon.com and decided to give one of these earbuds a try.  So I looked at the ratings and decided to try the JLab J3 earbuds.

When I got them, they looked pretty lame.  They even came with a case, what the heck?  Why do you need a case?

I read the instruction manual and it said that I had to “break-in” the earphones for about 24 hours before they would reach their full potential.  That was weird but I decided to give it a try. 

So I left my iPod on for awhile to see if it would really work.  I did try listening to it before the break-in period and the sound wasn’t that great.  It was about the same as the other earbuds I have had in the past.

After the break-in period was over, I listened to them again, and guess what?

They actually sounded really good.  Another thing that I like about them is that they really keep out the external noise.

I can be right in front of someone and have the volume up only half way and I can’t hear what they are saying unless they really yell at me.  This is also great for going to the gym or any time I am in public.

Although it is really good at keeping out the noise, it does such a good job that when you hit the cable, you can hear the thump in the earphones.  I’m sure that most earphones of this type have the same issue.

The bass is great but not overpowering and the highs are very crisp.

There are even different sized ear plugs so you can adjust the earphones according to the size of your ears.  At first, I was using the ones that were already on the earbuds and they kept falling out.  When I switched to a smaller size, they fit perfectly.

All in all, they are by far the best earbuds that I have ever owned and I would recommend them if you are looking for a pair.

They are great for trading or any other time, for that matter.  Oh and by the way, the case is actually very useful.

Another thing that I have found that helps me to concentrate and keep calm is a brain wave CD like this one.

I think there are some correlations to trading that can be taken away from this movie.  Becoming a successful trader really has to do with thinking independently, being willing to try new things and keep up with technology.   If your trading is slow, I would highly suggest it.
