Why I Will Never Buy a PC Again...or a Mac

I have been using OS X, the Mac operating system, for the past few days and I love it!  I will NEVER go back to Windows as my primary operating system.

I learned how to use a computer on the original Apple IIe, but since then I have been adamantly against using Macs for a variety of reasons. My primary reasons were that Macs were not able to run most PC programs and they did not play well with PCs.

Upon using my girlfriend’s Mac recently, I started to change my mind. The interface is amazing and it will never get a PC virus because it is a whole different operating system architecture. Everything just works as it should.  No tweaking or ‘living with’ software problems like in Windows.

As I started to do more research, I found out that If I install VMWare Fusion on a Mac, I can run any PC program. But how good could it be?

At the same time, I also learned that the Dell Mini 9 (same as the Dell Vostro A90) that I bought recently was the perfect netbook PC for installing the OS X operating system.  It is the best of both worlds because I can have a cheap laptop that was just over two pounds that also ran OS X.

Apple does not have a netbook.  The closest thing they have is the MacBook Air, but it is expensive, it only has a two hour battery life and you cannot put in a backup battery.  Those were huge turn offs for me.

So I ordered a retail copy of OS X Leopard from BestBuy.com and did the install according to the online instructions.

The install works as advertised and OS X runs great!  I also installed VMWare Fusion.  Windows really DOES run better on a Mac.  I only need Windows to run some of my trading programs like Forex Tester and MetaTrader but it is so nice to have the option.

No need to spend thousands of dollars on a real Mac!

I am very impressed with this little Dell netbook and OS X.  Obviously the Atom processor in the Dell netbook is underpowered in comparison to a real DuoCore Mac, so if you need more horsepower and don’t mind lugging around a 6 pound computer, then you should buy a MacBook.

For maximum portability and basic functions, I love this netbook.  Just something to consider if you are looking for a new computer for trading on the road.
