The Relative Strength Index or RSI indicator is one of the most frequently used indicators in trading.

Unfortunately, the RSI indicator that comes standard with MT4 is lacking a few key features.

Summary of How the MT4 RSI Alerts Indicator Works

Our custom RSI indicator uses the standard RSI calculation, but it adds a few super-useful upgrades.

This is the RSI indicator that should come standard with MT4. 

Obviously we are a little biased, but have a look and  decide for yourself.

Our indicator has the following benefits:

  • Never miss another RSI setup when you are away from your computer
  • A colored RSI line makes it easy to see when price is overbought or oversold
  • Get alerts when price moves into overbought/oversold, out of overbought/oversold, or both
  • Customize how you want to receive alerts: screen, mobile app push notification, text message (where available) and/or email. Choose one or more methods that work for you.

Update! Version 3 of the indicator now allows you to do the following: 

  • Set custom secondary visual levels
  • The secondary levels also change the color of the RSI line

Indicator Settings Explained

Here are the settings that are available for this indicator. Unlike other complicated RSI indicators you may find on the internet, this indicator has been streamlined and is easy to use.

RSI alerts indicator for MT4 settings

RSIPeriod – The number of periods (bars) you want to calculate the RSI over.
OverBoughtLevel – The overbought level where you want an alert to trigger.
OverSoldLevel – The oversold level where you want an alert to trigger.
UpperLevel2 – Set another visual level, if you need it. This level does not trigger alerts. If you don't need this level, set it to 100.
LowerLevel2 – Set another visual level, if you need it. This level does not trigger alerts. If you don't need this level, set it to 0.
alertType – You can choose if you want the alert to trigger:

  • As RSI moves into overbought/oversold
  • As RSI moves out of overbought/oversold
  • Both

DoAlert – Activate on-screen RSI alerts in Metatrader 4.
DoNotification – Activate Metatrader 4 mobile app push notifications. Push notifications need to be setup in your Metatrader 4 settings for this to work.
DoEmail – Activate email alerts. Email alerts need to be setup in your Metatrader 4 settings for this to work.

Choose Your Pair and Timeframe

This indicator will create alerts on the chart and timeframe that the indicator is attached to. Alerts must be turned on in the indicator and setup in MetaTrader.

For example if you attach this indicator to the EURUSD H1 chart, you will only get alerts from that currency pair and timeframe.

Does my computer have to be turned on to get alerts?
Yes. You will install this indicator on the desktop version of MT4 and it will send alerts to you via email, mobile app push notification or screen alert. You can also get text message alerts if your mobile phone provider allows email to text notifications. If you cannot keep your computer on all the time, you can also use a Virtual Private Server (VPS) service to host MT4 and send you alerts. See our resources page to find the VPS we recommend.
Can I pay with Cryptocurrency?
Yes! You can pay with any major cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Ethereum, USD Coin). Simply select cryptocurrency as your payment type at checkout.  
Do all RSI signals provide potential trading opportunities?
No. This indicator is meant to assist with trading strategies that use RSI as a potential entry signal. RSI alone is NOT an entry signal. You need to have a proven RSI trading strategy before using this indicator.
Is there a guarantee?

Will this work with my broker?
This indicator will work with any broker that uses the MT4 platform.
Will this indicator work on a Mac?
This indicator will work on almost all Macs that have MT4 already installed. However, if you use programs like Wine, Crossover for Mac, and PlayOnMac to run MT4, you may have issues. We strongly advise against using these types of software that try to run Windows programs without an actual installation of Windows. Programs that require an installation of Windows (like VMWare or Parallels) usually work great. The best thing to do before buying this indicator is to download a free indicator and see if you can add it to your installation of MetaTrader. If you can, then this indicator will work also.
Will this indicator work on the mobile or web versions of MT4?
No, you can only use custom indicators with the desktop version of MT4. So the best way to get alerts when you are away from your desk, is to setup an alert indicator like this on your desktop or laptop, then send the alerts to your mobile device.
Can I use this indicator on more than one computer?
Yes, you can use this on any computer that you own.
