If you want to get started right now, watch the video above.

The text version is provided below, if you prefer the text version.

Let's face it, the default MT4 chart settings are really ugly.

So let's fix that.

It really helps to have a clean chart template that you can go back to, every time you want to try out a new set of indicators.

You can even set your clean chart template as your default chart setting, so you don't have to change the colors every time you open a new chart.

Here's how to set it up.

Step 1: Setup Your Ideal Chart

The first step is to take a few minutes to setup your ideal blank chart color scheme.

Do this by right-clicking on any chart and select Properties.

The next window will allow you change the chart colors.

Change the colors to what works for you.

If you need some ideas about how to setup your chart, read this post on chart colors.

Take some time to really dial in the charts to the way you like them.

There's no right or wrong here.

It all depends on what you like.

Click OK when you're done.

Then add any indicators that you want to use in your template.

Make sure that your indicators have the correct settings before saving your template.

Step 2: Save the Chart as a Template

Once you have the perfect color scheme and indicator setup for your charts, save the chart as a template.

To do this, right-click on the chart again and select Template > Save Template…

Save MT4 template

Give your template a name and you now have a new template.

If you want the template to be the default template that new charts open with, name your new template “default.”

Step 3: Use the Template

In order to use the template, right-click on any chart and go to Template > template name

The template will be loaded on your new chart.

Conclusion

So that's how to create a clean chart template that you can use over and over.

Set this up once and you'll never have to deal with the nasty default charts again.

You'll also save a lot of time and headache.
