The Best Energy Drink For Trading (It’s Not As Gross As It Sounds)

Today, I am happy to present the first ever Trading Heroes Cooking Show! On this episode, I am going to make a concoction that I have been drinking for the past 3 weeks. The recipe sounds really gross, but it actually tastes very good. The recipe has only 3 ingredients and can be made in about 2 minutes.

Drinking this mixture gives me about 5 hours of energy and true to the claims, I have also lost 6 pounds since starting to drink it regularly.  The energy is not a jittery type of boost either, it is surprisingly even. This is because it does not rely on caffeine and sugar.  Check out what I mean:

As I mentioned in the video, I am currently using regular coffee, just because I wanted to see how it would work.  However, my order of Upgraded Coffee (that is used for Bulletproof Coffee) is on the way and I can't wait to give it a try because it is supposed to be even better.  Here is a link to the recipe on Dave's site, the explanation of the ingredients and why Upgraded Coffee is way better than Starbucks.

As if you didn't know that already…I actually prefer Folgers to Starbucks.

What do you think?  Have you tried this before?

  1. Boris,

Paper filters supposedly remove some essential fats from the coffee.

    Hugh,

MCT oil is supposed to be 6 times stronger than coconut oil, so might be worth a try, I have been using 2tbls of silver label kerry gold, with coconut oil with good effect as well. But I just put in an order for the mct oil because the effect is supposed to be so much stronger.

    Thanks for the article btw.

  2. Actually yesterday after using Philips hand blender, although more convenient, I’ve found using mixer can be not only messy but less effective because it doesn’t cause foam to form like blender does.

I used “Paulig” ready arabica coffee with 6 years old “Paulig” arabica coffee beans that I grinded. I don’t know what I was trying to do, but I love experimenting. Since I know that Dave recommends mold-free beans, I may have messed it. Beside mold-free coffee, I am missing coconut oil but I will buy one locally. Since there is a mold-free coffee buying guide on Dave’s blog, do you know if he also has buying guide for coconut oil?

I have read a couple of reviews on Magic Bullet and people say that company got greedy and cheapened on materials so now compared to earlier series, the latest are cheaply made and get broken more often.

Now about paper filters, I see they make some difference for you from time to time. I make coffee in my Philips drip coffee maker with its permanent filter synthetic and plastic filter. I should try it with paper filter. Maybe it will make some difference for me too.

    • Very cool, thanks for sharing what you are using. Dave actually recommends his medical grade MCT, but you can substitute virgin coconut oil. I don’t think it matters too much which brand you get, as long as it’s not processed.

Let me know what you find with the paper filters…

  3. Hello Hugh and thanks for referring to Dave Asprey’s recipe for bulletproof coffee. What mixer (or was it food processor?) did you use for mixing ingredients? I used electric hand blender with 2 whisks after letting both into boiled water since Dave’s recipe mentions pre-heating blender. He also recommends specific blender and using certain paper filter for brewing coffee. Do you use Xylitol or Erythritol sugar substitute?

Oh and regarding your conversion to Upgraded Coffee, do you feel the boost over Folgers?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Boris,

Glad you liked Dave’s recipe. I personally use a Magic Bullet…never tried the hand blender. It might sound dumb, but the filter can make a difference for me on some days.

I don’t use any sugar substitutes, I find the butter and coconut oil very satisfying on their own.

Over Folgers? Totally. But I have a pretty high caffeine tolerance, so the buzz wears off pretty fast. But with straight Upgraded, I feel a cleaner and more sustained boost.

      Cheers to great coffeee!!

      Hugh
